Located in the northeast of Fujian Province, Zherong County, which is under the jurisdiction of Ningde City, is bordered by Fuding City to the east, Fu’an City to the west, Taishun County of Zhejiang Province to the north and Xiapu County to the south. As an inland mountainous county in the northeast of Fujian Province, Zherong (formerly known as Zheyang) County has been a living place for ancestors since the Neolithic Age and before Shang and Zhou Dynasties. Besides, since it had been a commodity distribution center at the border between Fujian and Zhejiang Provinces from ancient times, Zherong County is also known as the “throat of Fujian and Zhejiang Provinces”. With a total area of 571 km2 and a population of about 103,000, it is the least populated county in Fujian Province. Being a trade point at the border between Fujian and Zhejiang Provinces from ancient times, Zherong County is both a National Ecological Demonstration Zone and one of 55 counties (cities) opening to the outside world which have been approved by the State Council.
Zherong County is a superior southern health-preserving land with pleasant environment, balanced ecological system, an altitude between 90 - 1,479 m, an annual average temperature of 16.2 °C, an average annual rainfall of about 2,200 mm and the urban green coverage rate of 40.66%. Abundant natural resources and unique industries, such as radix pseudostellariae, knives and scissors, monk clothes, biological medicine and modern agriculture enable Zherong County to possess more distinct economic characteristics than other counties. Especially in recent years, Zherong County carried out an activity of “comparing the development of counties from the aspects of characteristics, growing rate and duration and evaluating of power for the people from the aspects of cadres, implementation and achievements”, centering on the development orientation of “Haixi Medicine City” and “Ecological Health-preserving City”. Within three years, Zherong County achieved an average annual growth in GDP of about 13% and an average annual growth in general financial revenue of 43.3%, and introduced 102 three-dimensional projects with a total investment of RMB 19.600 billion and an annual progressive increase of more than RMB 2 billion.
Local government of Zherong County always attaches importance to education
For the past few years, Zherong County has actively promoted the development of the reform in education and made every endeavor to increase the education investment, greatly improve school-running conditions, strengthen the quality of teachers and improve the school-running level, thus realizing the balanced and leapfrog development of education industry of the whole county.
According to the results of 2015 Evaluation on Educational Supervision of the County-level People’s Government recently published by the Education Supervision Committee of Provincial Government of Fujian, Zherong County was rated as an excellent county and awarded with a plaque saying “2015 Advanced County on Education in Fujian Province” and RMB 300,000 for school construction in the way of substituting subsidies with rewards by the Provincial Government of Fujian.
Cosunter Scholarship and Sponsorship
As there are lots of less developed, remote rural areas in Zherong County, the students from low-income families where their parents are laid off workers or divorced, the students who are disabled or from single parent families and the students excellent in character and learning from poor families that can hardly make a living are unable to complete their studies.
Sticking to the mission of “spreading benevolence, caring for the people’s livelihood”, Cosunter set up the “Cosunter Scholarship and Sponsorship for Zherong, Ningde” in 2011 to help local poverty-stricken students and students excellent in character and learning to complete their studies, thus promoting the development of education of Zherong County. This activity has by now been successfully held for five sessions and collected millions of funds to support nearly 500 local students.
2016 Award Ceremony of Cosunter Scholarship and Sonsorship Held as Scheduled
The Scholarship and Sponsorship Award Ceremony with the theme “Cheer you on for Sailing Your Dreams” will be held as scheduled at Zherong No.1 High School of Fujian on August 19, 2016.
Zherong Education Bureau is currently conducting a comprehensive evaluation and survey of fresh graduates and enrolled students from Zherong No.1 High School of Fujian and students from Fujian Zherong Vocational Technical School. Cosunter will award the scholarship or sponsorship to nearly 100 local poverty-stricken students and students excellent in character and learning to realize their dream to be college students according to the survey results.
Submit application materials by schools → Preliminary review by the Education Bureau of Zherong County → Verify by a county-level working group through visiting → Submit and publicly display a list of candidates confirmed by the working group → Remove candidates receiving financial assistance from other sources on the principle of avoiding repeated funding → Determine the students to be funded in the middle of August and grand scholarship or sponsorship on the day when the award ceremony is held.
